You might think – great, another Gerard Butler disaster flick. There’s no way this one’s gonna be any better. Well, that’s where I disagree folks cos ‘Greenland’ was a vast improvement over Butler’s recent outings.

‘Greenland’ tells the story of estranged couple John and Allison Garrity and their son Nathan who are trying to escape the soon-to-strike comet Clarke while society begins to break around them. A pretty standard template for a disaster movie. There’s a big-ass comet waiting to strike, people have gone bonkers and Gerard Butler is there to save the day. But the film was different from that. And that’s where the film caught me off guard too.

‘Greenland’ on the other hand gives all its focus to the Garrity family. They’re the main elements of the story with the disaster aspect not overshadowing them.

I love disaster movies (watching Roland Emmerich movies can do that). But they can be pretty repetitive and without stakes or emotions.

Right off the bat, we’re shown that John and Allison’s marriage is on the rocks with Nathan holding them together. But staring at the face of a catastrophe, their love for each other prompts them to survive against all odds, or at least try to.

The film actually delayed its release due to the ongoing pandemic and watching it now definitely made me believe that people will really show their best and worst in testing times. We’re shown all kinds of people engaging with the Garrity family, ones that selflessly help them in dire situations and ones that always put their well-being over others. These characters help the viewers empathize more with our leads and the hardships they go through to find some safety.

So it’s natural to not associate Gerard Butler with heartfelt performances and I don’t blame you. But he really does give it all in this outing.

As John Garrity, Butler really sells how much of a dedicated father and husband he is while the world crumbles around him and at every step his family steps in grave peril.

Morena Baccarin also gets to shine in her role making a good pair with Butler. Her combination scenes with Roger Dale Floyd, playing their son Nathan, were really good and they were instances where she got to showcase her skills. And Scott Glenn was a nice addition to the main cast even if it was only for a little while.

As I mentioned before the family does get precedence but it’s a disaster movie after all. And that story aspect remains unchanged in this genre too. The CGI was questionable in many places and there were quite a few contrived settings.

Not to spoil anything but there was a perfectly good moment to stop the film but they went for the failsafe option as Hollywood always does. Other than that no problemo for me.

My biggest complaint, which might be more of a personal preference, was the ending.

The film’s director Ric Roman Waugh previously collaborated with Gerard Butler on ‘Angel has Fallen’ and also on the upcoming ‘Night Has Fallen’. But I’m sure that ‘Greenland’ will remain their best venture. I watched the film at a time when I thought it would be easy on the eyes and head and instead I got a great thriller that definitely engaged me and made good use of the family stuck in a disaster trope.

What To Know Before Watching Greenland Movie (No Spoilers)

There are two types of disaster videos. There are people who want disasters to happen but refrain from the reality that comes with them, and disaster movies are true disaster movies. In the second category of disaster movies, movies show how people react to disasters. They show you the dark side, but they also show the bright side of human beings. They also do not fear the carnage that accompanies disasters. Not everyone survives disasters. I love it when the Greenland movie review really shows it.

I’m happy to see Greenland 2020 movie fall into the second bracket of disaster films. (The Norwegian films The Quake and The Wave are two other excellent examples). (I mean if a plant-killing comet were heading toward Earth, what would you do? What would you do to stay alive, celebrate like it was 1999, or accept a possible fate? Haha !) Now, the content of some of the partial films seems far-fetched, but Greenland brings realism to the situation, and Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are so good in the film that you can’t help them. I sympathize with them, support them, and sometimes yell at them. Haha!

Favorite part of a disaster movie

But what I love most about disaster movies is that they are suggestive. You put yourself in that situation and think, “What would I do?” Greenland is the perfect film for that because the situation is real. There were some situations that felt unlikely, but Greenland’s characters make logical and wise choices. mother! ) So how would you rate Greenland and Greenland movie review?

My rating

The Greenland 2020 movie is the best natural disaster movie I’ve seen in a long time, and I’ve been on the edge of my seat for most of it. It shows fear, anxiety, heartbreak, and the good and bad sides of humanity. That’s why I’m giving this movie a solid A. If you like disaster movies, I’d like you to watch Greenland 2020 movie.

Please do not dismiss the Greenland film as yet another end-of-the-world flick. Maybe you could give it a chance and find yourself surprised!
