Forgotten Recipes of Punjab

Lahorey or Lahori chicken curry recipe was a staple of Lahoris. Sometimes potatoes and Kabuli channe were also added to this chicken recipe and are still very popular in Pakistani Restaurants but not so otherwise.

Ingredients:
  • Chicken 800gm
  • ghee or oil 4 tbsp
  • 2 onions ( ground to paste)
  • 3 tomatoes ( ground to paste)
  • ginger garlic paste 2tbsp
  • green chillies 3 chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • coriander powder 2 tsp
  • green coriander leaves 1 tbsp
  • curd half cup
  • freshly ground garam masala 1 tsp, water 1 cup
Instructions:
  1. Marinate chicken pcs in salt and half of the ginger garlic paste for half an hour or more.
  2. In a wok, heat ghee and fry the marinated chicken pcs till they are a little brown.
  3. Add ground onion and cook again till the rawness of onions is gone.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook again. Add tomato paste and bhuno again.
  5. Add the spices except for garam masala. Cook again and add water. Let it be on slow flame covered till the chicken pieces are tender.
  6. Add beaten curd, freshly ground garam masala, and green coriander leaves in the end and cook again for a while.

Serve hot with roti or rice.
