The Little Things

Cold side of the pillow.
Listening to the rain fall.
Looking at each other
but not saying a word at all.
Reading your favourite book
On a snowy winter’s day.
Hugging someone tight
taking their pain away.
The smell of a fresh morning.
The beauty of a clear starry sky.
The connection between you & I
& how it doesn’t need to be justified.
How the light shines on your eyes.
How your smile tells no lies.
How I can’t begin to explain
what my heart feels like inside.
Dancing in the rain.
Staying up all night
taking a trip down memory lane.
Eating too much.
Laughing until we are crying
& laughing again.
Telling a story but forgetting
someone’s name.
Knowing you should go to bed
But watching one
more episodes instead.
Precious time with family
Going out bowling with friends.
Thinking of all that worries me
& does any of it matter in the end.
What a crazy world we live in.
Appreciating the memories it gives
Oh, how we love this life full of mystery
& all those little things.

TIME.

It’s like time is running out.
The clock is counting down.
They say live each day like
It’s your last.
But why does it have to go by so fast?
Every moment ticking by.
So full of emotion.
I could fly.
Soaring & whizzing around.
Seeing it all from up above.
Don’t even take the
second hand for granted.
Hold on tight to those you love.
We never know what will happen next.
Take it all in until your time is up.

IMAGINE THIS.

A house,
covered windows
& purple door.
You are imagining
this now even if
you haven’t seen it before.
A crumbled path way behind me.
Through a dark, quiet wood.
I could go back if I wanted to.
Maybe I should?
Vines & moss climb the walls
as far as the eye can see.
Night falls. Day calls.
You’d think I’d be lonely.
But here I am, smiling with
only the stars for company.

FLOWER.

Green stem.
Heart shaped petals.
Soft to touch.
Delicate and gentle.
Colours glistening in the light.
The beauty sparkles.
Such a sight.
Smells like sweet perfume
on a warm summer’s day.
Instantly brighten a room
Making it cosy.
Picked fresh from the garden.
Bought as a gift.
Wrapped for a special someone.
Pure bliss.
Smiling faces.
Vase filled spaces.
Nothing feels better than this.
Oh, how life gives us these
simple pleasures.
that we mustn’t forget.

Hi, I'm Catherine. I love to write, mostly my own poems. Something that grew from a young age into a passion that I now proudly get to share with the world.
