Who is ready to get excited by some movies? Expectations and hype can be strong forces in the cinematic experience. The trailers, the rumors, the early reviews…these all can do wonders when it comes to getting people excited for a new film release. For this upcoming weekend, we have a few reasons you should be excited about this film coming your way…A Haunting in Venice.
Terror
Was this trailer legitimately scary? This was incredibly unexpected since the last two films were more traditional mysteries and thrillers. This time around, it looks like there are some real ghosts and terrors around every corner. Let’s start with that séance. That scene looked engrossing, haunting, and head spinning. The camera is creeping and aggressive. There were some serious chills while watching the trailers for the first time. This is a fresh way of offering up the third Branagh/Poirot flick.
Kenneth Branagh
What is more exciting for Branagh…behind or in-front of the camera? His Poirot is such an eccentric delight. It is even more interesting finding him in a place where he will question what is real. Plus…that mustache. But behind the camera, Branagh has delivered some impressive films. Shakespeare. Marvel. Agatha Christie. He can deliver them all. Purely based on these trailers, A Haunting in Venice looks to be delivering the more unique and best entry so far.
Poirot
How can you not get excited about one of the greatest detectives in all of film? His quirks and eccentricities are memorable and make for a strange piece to slot into any crew of characters. His approach to mystery is enthralling and gets you instantly invested. His look is perfectly unique where it is hard to forget him. But putting his wit and logic to the test against the potential of real ghosts…that is the most exciting piece of all!
Ensemble
What is one of the most fun aspects of Branagh’s Poirot films? The ensembles. Michelle Yeoh is SO popular right now and such an incredible actress. Watching her connect with the other side and performing seances is quite the treat. Tina Fey is so wonderful. Who doesn’t love Fey? This will certainly be a fresh type of film for her and role to play so that is something to get excited about. Jamie Dornan is in on a roll with some of his best work in Belfast and Barb and Star. Popping up in another Branagh film is a big selling point. Throw in Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly and you have quite the stack cast for this new caper.
