Are You There, God It’s Me, Margaret: Trailer, Release Date, Cast, & Everything We Know!

Who is ready to get excited by some movies? Expectations and hype can be strong forces in the cinematic experience. The trailers, the rumors, the early reviews…these all can do wonders when it comes to getting people excited for a new film release. For this upcoming weekend, we have a few reasons you should be excited about this film coming your way… Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.

The Themes

There is a reason this book has lived through the years. There are few films for younger audiences that tackle the ideas of religion and faith through the eyes of a young kid. That is an exciting and relatable prospect for the young audiences out there who may need a way to process the significance of faith. But he is only the crown jewel of a fully fleshed-out collection of relatable and meaningful topics that this story tackles. Just focusing on the children (because there are plenty of themes for the adults as well), this film will tackle menstruation, moving, making friends, puberty, and many more. Plenty for the young audiences to sink their teeth into.

The Setting

How the 70s does this movie look? The costumes, the production design, and the hairstyling…it all looks like perfection! The soundtrack has the potential of being one of the best collections of 70s songs featured in a film for a long time. For those members of the audience who experienced it, this will certainly be a wonderful nostalgia trip. For those younger, it looks to be a beautiful journey into a different time.

Judy Blume

There is a reason why Blume is one of the most influential youth writers of all time. Her books (including this one) are being banned for the important topics they tackle for young folks and that is admirable. The way she tells her stories makes it easier for younger readers to process more mature themes is something special. If writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig is able to capture even just an ounce of Blume’s talents in her adaptation, then the whole family will be in for a moving experience.

The Cast

Abby Ryder Fortson melted our hearts as the young Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and now she can melt them again as the titular Margaret as she goes on her journey of puberty and growth. Rachel McAdams is a gem, and I cannot believe she has transitioned in the “playing moms” phase of her career. But she is almost guaranteed to crush it. Kathy Bates steals every frame in the trailer with her wonderful sass and that will most certainly be a highlight in the film. Even Benny Safdie (who is left out of the trailers for the most part) is a fun addition. And just based on the trailer, the other members of the young cast look like they will also be quite delightful.
