Mads recommends for Home Quarantine: TV shows edition

Hey everyone! I hope everyone has their spirits up. And to increase it, even more, I’m here with a few TV show recommendations. TV shows are a different ball game when compared to movies. They need to engage their audiences constantly, whether it’s comedy or drama or thriller so that they can enjoy it in its full glory. The following TV shows are some of those that did the exact above to me. I hope it does the same for you!

BIG LITTLE LIES (2017-2019)

What started as a miniseries soon gave rise to a second season after its immense popularity and ‘Big Little Lies’ deserves all that praise. It follows the Monterey Five, a group of women who each have their own secrets and finally end up facing their fears. With an unbelievable cast of powerful actors (the biggest plus point) the series presents a mystery thriller with timely social issues. Also, it has one helluva soundtrack.

SHERLOCK (2010- )

Get ready for four seasons of excitement, exhilaration, and enchantment as we ride along with Sherlock Holmes and John Watson on the baffling cases they investigate. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have owned their roles bringing their style and flair to this detective duo. The cases are as weird as they come and the investigation is as fun as it can be. Definitely one not to be missed. Please catch up on it before the highly expected fifth season comes!

WATCHMEN (2019)

I watched this without much prior knowledge about the movie and I understood it just fine. You wouldn’t be missing out on much except a little backstory. But ‘Watchmen’ gradually fills you in on that along with a new story with new characters that has twists and turns at every corner. The way all the subplots come together in that finale is pure excitement. Incredibly well written and excellently acted ‘Watchmen’ doesn’t waste much time in captivating its audience. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock…

BODYGUARD (2018)

This miniseries premiered to critical acclaim and it is no surprise. Right from the starting ‘Bodyguard’ grips your attention and always keeps us thinking about what’s going to happen next. Richard Madden rightly won that Golden Globe for his amazing portrayal of police officer David Budd. Packed with solid performances and a thrilling story that is twisty right till the end ‘Bodyguard’ is one action-packed experience.

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY (2019- )

Are you bored of Marvel and DC superheroes and want something original and different? Well, look no further. ‘The Umbrella Academy’ tells the story of seven kids born on the same day and were adopted by an eccentric millionaire to raise them as a vigilante squad. The series has a surprising storyline filled with lovable characters played by wonderful actors. With twists that no one sees coming, the series satisfies our hunger for something fresh and memorable. And guess what – the second season is on its way!

AMERICAN CRIME STORY (2016- )

I love “based on true events” stuff and when I learned that there’s an Emmy winning series that’s based on real events then I had to see it. And now I’m here telling how amazing it was. The first season is based on the OJ Simpson trial and the second season deals with the murder of fashion icon Gianni Versace. Both the seasons show excellence in acting (there are some amazing performances), writing, and making. Man, I can’t wait for the next season!

FLEABAG (2016-2019)

This show is dark comedy gold. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will become your new crush by the time you finish this British comedy that has won loads of accolades. Filled with tons of fourth wall breaking, witty dialogues, comedic expositions, and a big heart ‘Fleabag’ will leave you in splits while slowly making you fall in love with her. Wait till you see Andrew Scott as the Hot Priest!

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE (2015)

Based on the novel by Agatha Christie this miniseries tells the story of 10 people stuck on an island with no escape while each one dies mysteriously. The storyline gets twisty with each passing moment and all the characters are suspicious to the core. Just when you think you figured something out, the ending comes out of nowhere and baffles us again. With rich cinematography and creepy soundtrack ‘And Then There Were Nine’ is a very under-appreciated miniseries that needs all the praise.

CHERNOBYL (2018)

What can I say that hasn’t been said already? It’s amazing, it’s haunting, it’s fantastically acted, it’s frightening and it’s definitely one of the best. HBO hits the mark again with the miniseries tracking the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. They often say reality is most frightening. When we see how the people behind this disaster acted, the saying really rings true. Just watch it and you’ll understand why it gets so much praise.
