Who is ready to get excited by some movies? Expectations and hype can be strong forces in the cinematic experience. The trailers, the rumors, the early reviews…these all can do wonders when it comes to getting people excited for a new film release. For this upcoming weekend, we have a few reasons you should be excited about this film coming your way… The Nun II.
The Scares
Why are these trailers always so effective? For The Nun films, they always deliver some serious jump scares and throw them right in the trailers. The first trailer for The Nun II delivers that grabbing face scare and I still tremble whenever the trailer begins in the theater. Even though The Nun was one of the weaker The Conjuring-Verse films, it still delivered some uncomfortably effective jump scares. The trailers are selling the same for The Nun II. The newspaper stands. The circle of nuns. Each of these scenes seem to have a hefty potential of dread of fear.
The Nun
Is Valak the scariest entity ever put to film? There certainly is an argument. James Wan struck gold with the inclusion of this character in The Conjuring 2. Bonnie Aarons is a true unsung hero of horror because it is her unique presence and look that helps bring this demonic character to life. The combination of practical make-up and her facial acting causes all types of chills covering your body. The whole rest of the film might not be delivered but Aarons and Valak certainly will.
Taissa Farmiga
What was one of the biggest highlights of The Nun? Taissa Farmiga. The sister of the ever-talented Vera Farmiga, Taissa brings a gentle and empathetic presence. We care for her and want her to not come into harm. Bringing her back for a second outing is a great choice as we can build that connection with Sister Irene even more. We love The Conjuring films because of the Warrens. We love having characters to connect with and root for. This looks like Sister Irene can possibly get there. And more importantly, Taissa brings some strong acting chops to the table as well.
Storm Reid
Who is your rising star in film right now? Storm Reid is a great answer. She absolutely killed it in Missing at the start of this year which got her a lot more attention. She is such a talented young performer who can deliver on so many different levels. Her bringing her talents to this horror film has so much potential. She showed her thriller chops in Missing and now she can turn that up for some real terror this time around.
