Who is ready to get excited by some movies? Expectations and hype can be strong forces in the cinematic experience. The trailers, the rumors, the early reviews…these all can do wonders when it comes to getting people excited for a new film release. For this upcoming weekend, we have a few reasons you should be excited about this film coming your way… Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
No Michael Bay
This might feel a bit harsh…but it is the truth. For so long, Transformers were attached to Bay’s name like a plague. His sensibilities took the franchise into a space that made them more parody than earnest love letters to this beloved 80s series. The first film received decent praise but the other four progressively got too ingrained with Bay’s worst traits. But Bumblebee was a breath of fresh air from Travis Knight. There is some hope that Creed II director, Steven Caple Jr., can do that same thing and offer up a fun ride.

Beast Wars
Did you grow up in the 90s? If you did, you were probably aware of Beast Wars: Transformers. The animation might look horrendous by today’s standards, but this series was a unique and beloved experience centered on Transformers turning into giant animals. Dinobots got their time in Transformers: Extinction but the time is now for a REAL Beasts Wars adaptation. This is an exciting prospect for this franchise which needs a bit of a shake-up.
The Action
What was one of the biggest issues with Bay’s films? The action. Too much is going on at the same time. Everything in the frame looked like a mashing together of CGI metal. How do you get excited and have fun with the action if you cannot tell what is going on? Or there is so much that you cannot possibly capture the whole picture. The action in the trailers seems to focus on center figures which anchors the action and increases the tension. There is even a one-shot sequence that looks amazing. THAT is how you garner excitement for an action franchise.

Unicron
We have gotten Megatron so much that it is just nice to get someone different. BUT…it is even more exciting to have a world-devouring level threat in this film like Unicron. This is a character popularized by Orson Welles of all actors in the 80s. This time, Colman Domingo (an incredible actor in his own right) will bring this big bad to life. This is such an exciting turn for the fans of the original animated film.
